An
artist all of his life, Carlos Muhammad uses his passion and gift for
writing and drawing to express many of his most intimate thoughts about
Black life in America.
Muhammad was born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York. He attended
undergrad and graduate school at Buffalo State College in Buffalo, New
York. During his college years, Muhammad became an advocate for change.
He used his weekly school newspaper column and leadership positions
in student and community organizations as vehicles to convey messages
concerning Black People and humanity.
Muhammad’s increasing frustration at the many injustices and lack
of self-love, respect and knowledge within the Black community served
as a catalyst for Caressed Spirits. Centering
on the themes Freedom, Justice and Equality; Knowledge, Wisdom and
Understanding; and Love Peace and Happiness, Caressed
Spirits unfolds Muhammad’s reflections about life.
Muhammad has lectured and delivered poetry on various college campuses
and venues throughout Buffalo and surrounding New York areas, the Baltimore/DC
area and Philadelphia. Muhammad presently resides in Baltimore where
he serves as an educator to middle school, high school and college students.
